We’re so grateful to have Nicolay Jonsson as part of our Buddha Bella Healing Center community. Nicolay is a mama of 4, a prenatal yoga teacher, and a true embodiment of kindness and strength. With a passion for Hatha, Kundalini, and prenatal/postpartum yoga, Nicolay brings a nurturing and grounded energy to her classes.
Her journey with yoga began in her early 20s, and as she became a mama, it became her sanctuary—a way to return to herself amidst the daily demands of motherhood and being a business owner.
You can join Nicolay for prenatal and mama classes, where she focuses on building community and empowering women through the beautiful experience of pregnancy and motherhood.
Here’s a little more about Nicolay:
Q: What is your first and last name?
A: Nicolay Jonsson
Q: How long have you been practicing yoga?
A: Since I was in my early 20s, off and on. As I became a mama, yoga became my sanctuary, a way to come back to myself, especially with the daily demands of being a mama of 4 and a business owner.
Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: This is a tough one, as my taste buds have changed as I’ve gotten older. If bloating and digestive issues were non-existent, I would say chicken adobo with rice – a comfort Filipino food I grew up with. 💗
Q: What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
A: Goddess Pose/Utkata Konasana! The empowering feminine energy it ignites from within me is so powerful. It’s my remembering of the powerful feminine force – shakti – that resides within me always that I carry throughout the day. It is one of my favorite poses to integrate into my prenatal classes, not only because of the physical benefits of opening up the hips and strengthening the pelvic floor, but also the embodiment of the goddess, especially during this sacred experience.
Q: What style(s) of yoga do you specialize in?
A: Hatha, Kundalini, Prenatal, Postpartum, and Mama + Me Yoga
Q: What is a fun fact about you that most people don't know?
A: I love making all my skincare products. While I was pregnant with my second baby, I experienced a challenging health experience that changed my way of being, including things I put on my body. So I make all my family’s, myself, and clients’ skincare products like lotion balms, facial toner, facial and body oils.
Q: What is your favorite part about teaching yoga?
A: So many things! The top is building community within class, especially within my prenatal and beyond classes. Mamahood can feel lonely at times, but being in a room with like-minded mamas who have experienced similar things is such great medicine. So being able to foster community in my classes is one of my favorite things!
Q: What is your advice for someone new to yoga?
A: Be open to evolving. The more you practice, the more your voice, your style, and your confidence as a teacher will grow. Remember – the best teachers are lifelong students. Stay curious, keep learning, and trust that your teaching will deepen as you do.
Q: If you could swap lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
A: There’s no one person I’d swap with, but I’d love a day where I’m simply sipping tea by the ocean, dancing barefoot under the moon, and just being. No to-do lists, no roles to play, just presence, pleasure, and peace.
Q: If you were a yoga pose, which one would you be and why?
A: I would be Goddess Pose – rooted, strong, and open. It reflects how I hold space: grounded in support, connected to intuition, and willing to embrace the intensity and beauty of transformation. Just like in the pose, I aim to meet life with both strength and softness.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that you live by?
A: Recently, I met a Tibetan monk, and he introduced me to the Green Tara mantra – “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha.” I’ve been living and breathing this mantra. Green Tara is the mother of buddhas, the remover of obstacles, and embodies compassion with discipline.
Q: What's your go-to karaoke song?
A: “Know Who You Are” by Alicia Keys and Pharrell Williams
We’re so thankful to have Nicolay as part of our community and look forward to her guiding more mamas through their yoga journey. Join Nicolay for Prenatal Yoga to feel empowered, grounded, and supported on your own journey.
