Teacher Highlight: Andrea Hutchens-Cunningham


At Buddha Bella Healing Center, we love to highlight the teachers who make our community unique, bright, loving, and caring—and Andrea Hutchens is one of them! Andrea is an experienced yogi with over 25 years of practice. She has hosted a series of workshops at Buddha Bella that highlight her in-depth experience in the yogic teachings. Currently, Andrea teaches Himalayan Sattva Kriya yoga and Hot Classic Flow, bringing her wisdom and passion into every class. Beyond her yoga expertise, she’s an amazing human and friend to all. Q: What is your first and last name?

A: Andrea Hutchens-Cunningham


Q: How long have you been practicing yoga?

A: 25 years


Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: Greek food


Q: What is your favorite yoga pose and why?

A: Eagle pose—for balance, detoxification, focus, and concentration.


Q: What style(s) of yoga do you specialize in?

A: Himalayan Sattva Kriya yoga, but I also teach hot sequence, Nidra, restorative, vinyasa, etc.


Q: What is a fun fact about you that most people don't know?

A: I grew up on the water in Maryland catching crabs off the pier at our house near the Chesapeake Bay.


Q: What is your favorite part about teaching yoga?

A: Connecting to others and watching them connect back to themselves.


Q: What is your advice for someone new to yoga?

A: Find a teacher you like and try everything.


Q: If you could swap lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?

A: I think Michelle Obama. She is brilliant.


Q: If you were a yoga pose, which one would you be and why?

A: Eagle—they soar higher and higher, elevating themselves until all prey give up.


Q: Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that you live by?

A: "Everything in its time. Nothing before its time." —From my Master teacher Anand. A reminder that all is happening just as it should be. Stay in trust.


Q: What's your go-to karaoke song?

A: "Mama's Broken Heart" by Miranda Lambert.
